Origins of Yoga Part One: The Origins of the Bhagavad Gita with Claudia Neuman

Origins of the Bhagavad Gita workshop dulles ashburn sterling leesburg herndon chantillyThis course gives an overview of the historic underpinnings that gave rise to the texts of epic heroism in India, the main one being the Mahabharata.

This workshop is one of four in a series of continuing education programs for students, teachers and lovers of yoga. We will be looking at the evolution of the spiritual texts that comprise the foundation for the Yoga Tradition as we know it today. We will explore the reasons why texts went from being in a sutra format, to being epic poems, such as the Mahabharata, which also includes The Bhagavad Gita. Students will receive a comprehensive overview of the Mahabharata and the main characters as they evolve towards the most famous battle that sets the stage for the Bhagavad Gita.

We’ll explore the main themes of the Gita, and begin to understand how and why this is one of the most important texts in all of human literature.

We will also be looking at the historic underpinnings, and, the influences of the Kali Yuga (which we are still in today), that started upon the death of Krishna.

This course will also include a wonderful yoga practice, pranayama and a Yoga Nidra practice as a prelude and, a specific meditation at the end.

This course is suitable for all levels of yoga practitioner and also provides continuing education hours for yoga instructors.

Workshop is led by Claudia Neuman of Align with Grace and Wisdom Yoga
